Born and raised in Grand Rapids Michigan, I continue to work, create and teach all age levels. My background in education spans two decades. As a retired art teacher I have opened a clay studio in my home, since 2023.
“Pottery is more than technique; it is more than forming of clay and the making of objects. It is, in many ways, the forming of self.” Robert Piepenburg, Renowned ceramics artist
I believe that pottery can be a reflective journey like a favorite coffee mug that fits just right in your hand or a decorative piece of art that brings joy.
Currently, I am hand building pottery wiith stoneware that is either warm brown, buff, or white. I have also been experimenting with raw glazing and carving into the matte glaze, englobe or terra cotta slip. I enjoy experimenting with glaze combinations that enhance the surface quality and identity of the fired piece. Most of my whimsical work is low fired and my functional ware is mid-fired stoneware using lead free glazes that are food safe and dishwasher safe.
